Vincent Carlyle Smith was the first child of Sarah Smith (maiden name McCarthy) and Henry Smith (2). On the 3rd day of February in 1895, Vincent was born in Southport, England (1). One and a half years later Vincent was a big brother to Harold Smith born in Southport, England on July 2nd, 1896. By the time Vincent was four he had a younger brother Harold and a newborn sister Adelaide, born on January 26th, 1899. In 1905 with money running low, Sarah and Henry decided to ship Vincent and Harold off to a children’s home in Canada. Boarding the passenger ship Virginian in Liverpool, England on April 6th, 1905, they left England with the destination of Saint John’s New Brunswick, Canada. They landed in Saint John on April 16th. After arriving at port in New Brunswick, Vincent and Harold would be transferred to Marchmont Homes in Bellville, Ontario. Located on 193 West Moira Street, Bellville, Ontario (2). Before enlisting in the First World War, Harold was a chauffeur (3), and Vincent was a machinist and a cook (1).
These URL codes tell about Marchmont Homes, their founder (Annie Macpherson) and how the ways of the children inside the home were to be. (5)
