Vincent returned from war, and met up with his old friend Mildred Wilson, daughter of Sarah and Richard Wilson. Mildred and Vincent had known each other for many years, but waited until July 21st 1954 to get married. The reason they waited to get married was because he wanted to live with his mother, until she had passed to make sure she was healthy and lived the rest of her life happily with her son nearby. After Sarah had died Vincent and Mildred got married at 355 Cooper st Ottawa, Ontario. Chalmers Chappel Church was where they had their ceremony. White Hill Glade was where the wedding reception took place in 1954 (4). Chalmers Church was also the location of which the 38th battalion's colors were deposited temporarily in 1919 (5). Through the 24 years they were married before Vincents Passing on July, 27th of 1978 they had been on many travels and journeys togther. Eastern Canada, Western Canada, and North Bay were three of their travels they took together. Sarah, Vincent, and Mildred Smith travelled together to Norway Bay in 1923. Mildred lived longer but passed away on December 14, 1991. Both Mildred and Vincent were buried at South Gower Cemetery in Kemptville, Ontario (4). Adelaide Hawkings-Smith died later on October of 1990. (8)
